Group Allocation Multiple Access in Single-Channel Wireless LANs

چکیده

The Group Allocation Multiple Access (GAMA) protocol for scheduling variable-length packet transmissions in a single-hop packet-radio network is specified and analyzed. By maintaining a dynamically-sized cycle that changes in length depending on the amount of network traffic, GAMA is able to provide the advantages of both TDMA and CSMA. Each cycle contains a contention period and a group-transmission period; a station with data to send competes for the right to be added to the transmission group by successfully completing an RTS/CTS message exchange during the contention period. Once a station is a member of the transmission group, it is able to transmit a collision-free data packet during each cycle. As long as a station has data to send, it maintains its position in the group. This can be viewed as either allowing stations to “share the floor” in an organized manner, or as establishing frames that are not synchronized on a slot-basis and vary their length dynamically based on demand. The throughput and average delay of GAMA are presented and analyzed; to validate our analysis, the results of both models are compared to the throughput and delay produced by a simulation of GAMA.

Multi-channel Medium Access Control Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks: A Survey

Extensive researches on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been performed and many techniques have been developed for the data link (MAC) layer. Most of them assume single-channel MAC protocols. In the usual dense deployment of the sensor networks, single-channel MAC protocols may be deficient because of radio collisions and limited bandwidth. Hence, using multiple channels can significantly ...

An OFDM-TDMA/SA MAC Protocol with QoS Constraints for Broadband Wireless LANs

Abstract— Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is an important technique to support high speed transmission of broadband traffic in wireless networks, especially broadband wireless local area networks (LANs). Based on OFDM, a new multiple access scheme, called OFDM-TDMA with subcarrier allocation (OFDMTDMA/SA), is introduced in this paper. It provides more flexibility in resource a...

Dynamic channel assignment with delay and loss considerations for wireless TDMA LANs

The scarce available bandwidth and the unpredictable, variable bit rate traffic in modern packet-switched wireless LANs, require an efficient channel allocation scheme. In this paper we make an overview of traditional call-by-call Dynamic Channel Assignment (DCA) methods and propose a novel DCA method that aims at assigning channels in a more dynamic way, based on the quality-of-service (QoS) r...

A New Medium Access Control Protocol for TDD Mode Wideband CDMA Wireless Local Area Networks

It is well known that TDD mode wideband CDMA is particularly suited for wireless local area networks (LANs). In this paper a medium access control (MAC) protocol is proposed for wireless multimedia LANs that are based on TDD mode wideband CDMA. In order to minimize interference experienced by a packet and to satisfy bit error rates (BERs) of multimedia traffic, a minimum-power allocation algori...
